Job fairs have changed over the past few years, but many misconceptions remain. You may think you know what to expect, but do you?

Here are five things you didn’t know about job fairs:

They’re engaging
People often think job fairs are dull and boring, with a room full of corporate networking but this actually couldn’t be further from the truth. In tech, there’s innovations happening almost every day and a job fair is the perfect chance to meet with the people driving them. You’ll find people who are passionate about what they do and are keen to share their story and listen to yours.
There will also be plenty of candidates looking for information, guidance and support at the jobs fair. This, combined with the spectrum of employers present, makes a job fair an exciting hotspot where engaging insight meets passion and innovation.

Employers big and small
As well as having major multinational corporations represented at job fairs, there’s also a fantastic number of exciting and innovative start-ups that attend. This makes job fairs an incredibly exciting place to be if you’re looking for a job because, although it doesn’t land everyone their dream role, you can meet exciting people at the heart of their industry’s innovation.

You may think that job fairs will only be successful for you if you are from a very traditional academic background or have very typical skills. The fact is that they give people the opportunity to get to know the candidates behind the CV, allowing everyone the opportunity to engage face-to-face with employers. This makes it an incredibly inclusive environment with people from all backgrounds and with all different types of experience under their belt.
